HFM Prevention Council

The goal of ASAPP's (Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention Partners) Promise is that every youth in Fulton County will have access to a caring adult -- parent, mentor, tutor or coach, a safe place to be with structured activities druing non-school hours, a healthy start and future through physical excercise and nutrition, a marketable skill utilizing effective education and an opportunity to give back through community service. 

The mission of ASAPP's Promise is to maintain, build, and enhance strong community partnerships that will reduce alcohol and substance use by the youth of Fulton County through long range planning, concrete actions and healthy social policys.

Prescription Drugs

The coalition is very concerned about the rates of prescription drug abuse by teens in Fulton County. 

According to the Prevention Needs Assessment survey results from 2006, 14% of Fulton County 12th graders had abused prescription amphetamines (i.e. Ritalin), 16% had abused prescription sedatives (i.e. Nembutal), 8% had abused prescription tranquilizers (i.e. Xanax) and 17% had abused prescription narcotics (i.e. Vicodin) in their lifetime.

Some upcoming campaigns and events the coalition will be conducting are a general awareness campaign aimed at parents and grandparents, a proper disposal campaign aimed at the general public and educational information at the local pharmacies.
